GitHub Releases plugin preview

Why I built it

A lot of products publish their release notes on GitHub, then copy them by hand into a changelog page on their website. That second copy is always a little behind. I wanted Framer sites to read straight from the source, so shipping a release on GitHub is also how the changelog gets updated.

How it works

Paste a public repository URL, choose which fields you want and how slugs should look, and import. The plugin uses GitHub’s public API, with no login or keys, and turns every release into a CMS item with its title, tag, notes, publish date, download links and counts. After that, syncs run in the background and update existing items instead of duplicating them.

What I learned

Mirroring a source is mostly about deciding what happens when it changes. Releases that disappear from GitHub are removed, but only after every page of results has loaded, so a failed request can never wipe a collection. Slugs are derived from the release itself, so URLs stay stable across syncs.
